Biography: 

Zia Hassan was Professor and Dean Emeritus at IIT Stuart School of Business, teaching business policy and quality management. His research focused on effective organizations and on strategic and quality issues in organizations and was presented in numerous publications and at professional meetings.

He performed research on the design of quality systems that was funded by the Office of Naval Research and was a consultant to numerous American and international businesses. Dr. Hassan published more than 30 papers, co-authored Basic Programs for Production and Operations Management, and wrote the chapter "Design of Interrelated Manufacturing and Quality Systems" in Manufacturing High Technology Handbook.

He was a Fellow of the American Society for Quality and served as an examiner for the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award.

Dr. Hassan passed away on October 29, 2017. In November 2017, Associate Professor of Operations Manager Elizabeth Durango-Cohen was invested as the first M. Zia Hassan Endowed Professor at Stuart School of Business.
