IIT Stuart Housing
Housing Information
IIT Stuart students have a variety of housing options available. Below you will find useful resources for making your housing arrangements.
Location
IIT Stuart is located at 565 West Adams St. in downtown Chicago, just a few blocks from the city's main financial district. IIT's Main Campus is located about 5 miles away, near the intersection of 35th St. and State St., on Chicago's near south side, about 5 miles from IIT Stuart. There is a free shuttle bus between the two campuses that runs during the morning and evening rush hours. There are also multiple public transportation options to get from one campus to the other, although none of these provide the door-to-door service offered by the shuttle bus. Please click here for a map of both locations. On this map, you may also find instructions on how to use public transit to travel between both campuses.
IIT Stuart has no official "on-campus" housing, although there are many housing options just a few short blocks from campus. IIT's Main Campus is also a possibility for IIT Stuart students: the university offers on-campus dormitory-style housing as well as graduate apartments.
Independent Off-Campus Housing
Many students choose apartment housing close to the IIT Stuart Downtown Campus and enjoy the convenience of shorter commutes to school and easier accessibility particular on weekends.
Move-in dates for apartments vary and depend on individual arrangements made with the leasing management office.
Some of the popular off campus housing options that students choose are:
Presidential Towers
As one alternative, many IIT Stuart graduate students lease apartments in Presidential Towers, located 2 blocks from the Downtown Campus where you will take classes. If you are interested in an apartment at Presidential Towers, contact:

How to Apply For University Housing
The university offers two types of housing: apartments for married and single graduate students, and residence halls (dormitories / hostel) for undergraduates and single graduate students. There are a limited number of rooms available; therefore, accommodations must be booked well in advance.
Applications are processed in the order that they are received and only will be considered if the application is accompanied with the appropriate non-refundable deposit. Deposits are accepted in the form of an international money order, personal check or credit card from a United States bank.
To receive an application for housing, please contact the Rooms Coordinator at rooms@iit.edu or call 312.808.6505. They are available online at the IIT Housing and Residential Services web site.
Please do not assume that sending an application with a deposit, a fax or an e-mail guarantees a space. Only students who have received a confirmation room assignment will be guaranteed housing.
Apartment Housing
University apartments are unfurnished (a cooking stove, refrigerator and window coverings are provided). Students should be prepared to supply their own furniture, blankets, pillows, bed sheets and other linens.
Additionally, apartment residents have their own kitchen to prepare meals, but also will need to provide their own cooking utensils, dishes and pots and pans.
Apartments range in size from zero bedrooms (studio) to 3 bedrooms. Monthly apartment rents range from $600 to $1,145. This rate includes all utilities (heat, cooking fuel and electricity). Residents are required to establish their own telephone service.
Students should be prepared to pay a non-refundable $50 application fee. Upon move-in, a security deposit equal to one month's rent, in addition to the first month's rent, is required. These rates are subject to change. Please visit the IIT Housing and Residential Services web site for current rates.
Electrical items and appliances should be purchased in the U.S. due to different voltage requirements (110-Volt AC, 60 cycles).
Graduate students who are interested in sharing an apartment with another student are encouraged to post their information on the IIT Housing and Residential Services web site. You may also find that other students who already live on campus may have posted a notice looking for a roommate. On the IIT Housing and Residential Services web site you also will find other helpful housing information, including applications.
