Admission Requirements: Degree
Admission to a master of science, master of business administration, professional master's or dual degree program at IIT Stuart School of Business is based on a combined profile of:
- Past academic performance (completion of a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution with minimum cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.0/4.0 or equivalent is required)
- Resume (required for all programs except Public Administration)
- Essay responses
- Recommendations
- GMAT or GRE scores (required for all programs except Public Administration)
- TOEFL or IELTS scores (if required)
Ph.D. admissions is based on a composite evaluation of the following four elements:
- GMAT or GRE scores
- Letters of Recommendations
- Essays
- A detailed evaluation of official transcripts from any undergraduate/graduate programs the applicant has previously attended.

GRE and GMAT Test Score Requirements
Following are the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) / Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) requirements for admission consideration. Most programs accept either the GRE or the GMAT.
- Master of Business Administration:
1000 GRE or 500 GMAT - M.S. Environmental Management & Sustainability:
1000 GRE or 500 GMAT - M.S. Finance:
1200 GRE or 600 GMAT - M.S. Marketing Communication:
1000 GRE or 500 GMAT - Master of Mathematical Finance:
1200 GRE (GMAT scores not accepted) - Master of Public Administration:
Submission of GRE or GMAT scores is optional for MPA applicants and there are no minimum score requirements for admission consideration. However, GRE or GMAT scores must be submitted by MPA applicants who wish to be considered for scholarships from IIT Stuart available to qualified new full-time MPA students beginning in the Spring 2012 term. - Ph.D. Management Science:
GRE or GMAT
GRE or GMAT scores are considered valid for five years from the testing date. If your scores are more than five years old at the time your application is reviewed, new scores will be required.
The GRE or GMAT requirement may be waived on a case-by-case basis for highly qualified applicants based on a combination of work experience and prior academic performance.
Beginning August 1, 2011, the GRE revised General Test replaces the current GRE General Test, which will give test takers new question types, a better test experience, and an opportunity to save 50 percent if testing in August or September 2011. Important score reporting information: if you take the GRE revised General Test during the special discount period of August - September 2011, your scores will be reported by mid-November. (Institutional code: 1318.) If you need your scores reported before November 2011, you need to take the General Test before August 1, 2011.
English Proficiency Test Score Requirements
Any applicant whose undergraduate degree was earned at an institution where the primary language of instruction is not English must submit Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) scores.
A minimum score of 85 on the Internet-based TOEFL or 600 on the paper-based TOEFL or 7.0 on the IELTS exam is required for admission consideration. If your scores do not meet these minimum requirements, we encourage you to consider retaking the exam.
We require official TOEFL or IELTS scores sent directly to IIT Stuart by the testing service. Please request that your scores be set to institution code 1318; no department code is required.
TOEFL and IELTS scores are considered valid for two years from the testing date. If your scores are more than two years old at the time your application is reviewed, new scores will be required.
Additional Program-Specific Requirements
Environmental Management and Sustainability: Applicants must have completed one semester of general chemistry and mathematics through calculus. If the applicant is deficient in one or both areas, enrollment in the program will be conditional on the deficient area being completed before certain courses are taken.
Ph.D. in Management Science: Applicants must typically have completed a master's degree and the business core at either the graduate or undergraduate level. For applicants who have a master's degree but have not completed the business core, some prerequisite courses will be required.
