CCE 501: Communication for Competitive Edge I

Focus on strengthening the foundation of English presentational skills that are necessary for success in contemporary competitive environments: academics, job search, business firms, government agencies, and other complex organizational settings.

The course consists of two seven-week modules. Module I deals primarily with oral presentation skills such as individual presentations; interviews; discussion and other spontaneous interaction; emphasis is placed on English speaking ability and intelligibility as well as understanding and reacting appropriately to the communicative environment in English.

Module II focuses on communication in written mode ranging from brief, time-sensitive responses to longer expository writing tasks. Emphasis is placed on accuracy and precision in expression; command of appropriate vocabulary and style; audience analysis and self-monitoring.

CCE 502: Communication for Competitive Edge II

Designed for students who have completed CCE 501, this course focuses on more advanced levels of English presentational skills that are necessary for success in contemporary competitive environments: academics, job search, business firms, government agencies, and other complex organizational settings.

The course consists of two seven-week modules. Module I deals primarily with the full range of oral presentation skills including individual and group activities, with additional emphasis on the use of audiovisual technology and print media in presentations.

Module II focuses on communication in written mode up to and including the writing of research reports. Continued emphasis is placed on accuracy and precision in expression; command of appropriate vocabulary and style; audience analysis and self-monitoring.

CCE 511: Advanced Communication for Competitive Edge

Focus at an advanced level on the English presentational skills that are necessary for success in contemporary competitive environments: academics, job search, business firms, government agencies, and other complex organizational settings.

The course consists of two seven-week modules. Module I deals primarily with oral presentation skills such as individual and group presentations; interviews; discussion and other spontaneous interaction; emphasis is given to use of audio-visual technology and print media in presentations.
